OCTOBER 2019
2019 ANNUAL SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL SEMINAR
The Roses Ministry has been in the forefront of building morally upright and God fearing youths through seminars with theme: “The Challenges of Growing up” since 2010. This includes distribution of copies of bestselling novels to secondary schools to encourage a reading culture in the youths. In addition to our annual senior secondary schools seminar, we hold holiday and school visits Seminars.
The 2019 Senior Secondary Schools Seminar was held on Wednesday 23rd October at the Swan Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. Copies of the book for 2019 “The Gift of a Legacy” by Jim Stovall were sent to each of the invited schools two months prior to the seminar day. It was attended by a total of 19 reputable schools which participated fully with enthusiasm.
Two Speakers were invited to speak on the topic: The Solution to New Trends in Drug Abuse.
The first Speaker, Pharmacist Okey Okeakwu, M.D., Salemgates Pharm. Lagos was deliberate and conscientious in giving his talk. He highlighted the new ways youths have come up with using and engulfing themselves in harmful drugs. He expertly gave ways to avoid this and who should be involved in the process of solving the anomaly. He held the captivated attention of the students all through his speech.
The second Speaker was Mrs Chiamaka Ezenwa-Sowemimo, an Executive Director & Head of Investment Banking for West Africa at Tellimer Capital ( formerly Exotix Capital),a leading global investment bank solely focused on developing markets. She delivered her talk with such wisdom and expertise that everyone in the hall was enthralled. She used practical everyday and real life experiences to bring home her points. The students and adults were held spellbound and not only was it interactive, many students were bold to ask many questions which she dutifully answered with inspiring and intelligent responses, even after other activities.
All the Schools’ quiz contestants keenly represented their schools in the contest. At the end of the day, three schools won the trophies for the competition. Trophies of gold, silver and bronze were given to the top three schools and specific gifts to all participants.
One unique thing with this year’s program is that almost all the schools came with three teachers and Guidance Counselor instead of the usual one.
