Jehovah Nissi

“Moses built an altar and called its name, ‘The-Lord-Is-My Banner’; (Exodus 17:15)

Imagine the powerful picture of Moses holding up his ordinary but miracle working staff with his two hands held up at the two sides by Aaron and Hur as a Banner showing the interplay between our limited strength and God’s all-powerful might. The Amalekites, descendants of Esau (brother of Israel) were a fierce nomadic tribe who killed for pleasure and profit. God showed Himself a Banner over His people, as Israel totally defeated the Amalekites as this physical banner was lifted up.

ACTION: Whatever your assignment, like Moses, don’t depend on your limited power but on God’s. Like Aaron and Hur, lift up the hands of spiritual leaders and hold it steady: take responsibility, pray for them and offer words of encouragement. At the right time, fight like Joshua.

PRAYER: Father God, please place Your Banner of Love and victory over us, especially when challenges arise from hostile enemies even our own families. Draw them to Your saving power, in Jesus name Amen.
