“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.”
(Psalms 25:4)
In London, the transport system is so good that one can look up the bus or train routes and get anywhere, without help from anyone. However, sometimes when we dress up for occasions with our big head ties and double traditional wrappers, we prefer a cab or a private car.
Each time my sister is driving us, she sets up her satnav (satellite navigation system) to direct her but more often than not she seems to be arguing with its direction within her location. “No, that’s not the best route”, she would say. Sometimes she’s right because of her knowledge, other times she’s wrong, as the satnav direction is to avoid congestion. The last time we went out, we decided to follow the exact directions of the satnav all the way. However, the car radio was on and sometimes blocked the view and before we realised it, we had missed a turn.
How do we receive God’s guidance? God’s primary means of guidance, His satnav, is the Bible. We must realise this and desire to obey it completely for the right direction, in order to fulfil our purpose on earth and get to our eternal destination. However, we do not automatically put the Bible on like the car satnav; we allow God to put in our ultimate destination each day, each season.
We need to read, study, meditate and learn from God’s Word to gain wisdom to perceive God’s direction and dwell constantly in God’s presence in prayer to learn the different ways in which God speaks. We must remove anything that would block our spiritual view like the car radio such as wrong friends and desires. In our willingness to obey, we receive God’s specific guidance to our destination
ACTION: Reflect on areas of your life in which you have to take decisions and decide to let God guide you.
PRAYER: Lord, teach me to seek your direction always and not demand for unnecessary answers from you before I obey.
