15 NOVEMBER

THE NEW SCHOOL

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live.”(Deuteronomy 30:19)

The principal of the secondary school my first child attended was a dedicated and excellent administrator. She and a group floated a new school and she
moved there as principal, so I went to view it for one of my younger children. Just a few structures had been put up in a village. They were surrounded by thick forests, with no walls. Nevertheless, everything about the teachers and the students seemed excellent, as I had expected.

Two questions faced me: Was I willing to send my child to a school in “this thick forest” with the dangers of snakes and other animals? And was I willing to send my child to go through the challenges of a new, untested school, in which I had no stake?

We have choices to make daily. They may be simple or difficult ones. Either way, ability to make choices is a God given gift. Sometimes we make those choices based on tested knowledge and/or our God given wisdom. Other times, we just decide to take a risk into something not yet tested. All have consequences. Some choices have overall positive effects that enhance or build life, while some have negative effects that diminish or destroy life, and may not be reversible. Some could even affect our generations.

God is calling us to a choice of real abundant life through Christ in obedience, to receive His eternal blessings – not just for ourselves but for our children. He does not force His will on us. At the point of death, it is the choice we have made in our lifetime that makes us citizens of heaven or hell. This choice is a matter of life and death!

ACTION: If you have chosen to follow Jesus, do you ask Him for direction and guidance in your everyday choices?

PRAYER: Father God, please help me to seek your will always, in all things.
