17TH NOVEMBER

THE “PINCHY” DRESS

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)

I had learnt how to sew clothes from my mum, who was a London-trained seamstress. When my girls were young, I used to make almost all their dresses.
As they grew up, I received a “notice” that they would no longer wear “pinchy pinchy” clothes.

Clothes made with chiffon and organza fabrics were always princess-like but the edges “pinch” the skin and can be quite uncomfortable. So, my girls chose comfort over beauty. We got to a time that I would show them a picture of what I thought was a lovely dress for them and they would jokingly ask if I wanted the dress for myself. They began to make their own choices. However, I am grateful to God that they still call me to pray with them before any major decision. They expect and receive answers from God.

Sometimes we make very important decisions that will affect our lives eternally without a word with our Father. We can never be too “mature” or experienced to make choices without God. Jesus never took any decision without asking God the Father. He set the perfect example for us to follow.
We read the Bible and learn what God’s desires and the “rules” of life, but we would be foolish to try to fit God into our mould and make His plans and purposes conform to ours. His knowledge, wisdom and plans for us are so much greater than ours that we must always strive to fit into them.

ACTION: Resolve never to get too big to seek God’s counsel on your life’s decisions.

PRAYER: Oh God, please grant me grace to reverence you that I may receive your friendship and the revelation of your secrets and covenant, in Jesus name. Amen.
