FIREPROOF FAITH
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1)
I could see the fire and the smoke-filled sky from my house. Driven by compassion, I said a short prayer for God’s mercy on those whose house was on fire. Almost immediately, my phone pinged, I read a message asking for prayers from my friend as her house was on fire. I rushed off to her house in confusion, while crying out to God.
I met her and her husband outside as the house burnt, rendering heartfelt praises to God, for delivering them all from the fire. I watched the embers of the fire going down, the roof and almost all they owned were completely destroyed. My confusion changed to praising God. They were confident that God is who He says He is – the Almighty, the Provider, the Sustainer – so they had hope that He would give them another home and all they needed. They were certain that God would do what He says in His Word. That is faith.
My faith grew in bounds that day! The Lord gave them a new home shortly after and there is nothing in their lives to show that they had gone through such a loss.
God fulfils His promises. Many are such promises of God that we can rely on. Jeremiah 29:11, for instance, says: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (NKJV).
ACTION:God’s promises are unfailing. Stand on them, regardless of the storms of life.
PRAYER: Lord, grant me grace to believe and trust you always.
