21ST NOVEMBER

WHEN GOD SEEMS SILENT

“Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.” (Matthew 2:16)

The wise men/astrologers saw a spectacular star rise in the east and they followed it till they got to King Herod in Jerusalem.
What happened to the star?

These men interpreted correctly that a child had been born who would be King of the Jews. However, they most probably made assumptions that this special child would be born in the palace, so they stopped looking at the star. This stop at the palace of King Herod resulted in the ruthless killing of all male children of two years and below in Bethlehem.

When the wise men left the palace and set off on their route, the star appeared again, till they found the unexpected birthplace of the Messiah in the most unexpected place, a manger.

Whenever we take our eyes off the bright and morning Star, Jesus Christ, we think God is silent as we no longer hear Him. We derail and sometimes this may lead to calamity which may be irreversible. It is wise not to make assumptions in spiritual things but to be “foolishly” obedient to God’s Word. We must focus on Jesus, the Author and finisher of our faith and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in us. As the Lord says, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9).

ACTION: Stand on Christ, the Solid Rock. All other grounds are sinking sand!

PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace and wisdom to obey always and remain focused on you
