26TH NOVEMBER

WORSHIP WITH KNOWLEDGE

“Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going.
How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”(John 14:5-6)

Rev. Billy Graham told of a time early in his ministry when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon. Wanting to mail a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was. When the boy had told him, Graham thanked him and said, “If you’ll come to the Baptist Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to heaven.” Sadly, the boy replied, “I don’t think I’ll be there… How can you know the way to heaven when you don’t even know your way to the post office?”

The way to the post office in a new town may not be important but knowledge of things around us is an important component of evangelism if people are to believe what we say. Jesus had just spoken words that were supposed to be reassuring to His disciples: He was going to prepare mansions for them and where and the way they knew not. I can imagine that they glanced at one other in confusion but no one, except Thomas, had the courage to face up to being ignorant after three years of walking with Jesus.

Have you ever felt you seem to be the only one who did not know or understand something and you didn’t want to look foolish by asking questions? If someone asks, everyone then concurs, “exactly”. Like Thomas, we need to be inquisitive and courageous. He didn’t seem to care if others thought he was daft or unbelieving. He just needed to understand fully. He asked questions, he sought and received answers and worshipped God with understanding and confidence, not just because everyone else was doing so. That is how we should be.

ACTION: Develop the courage to seek to know, regardless of what others think.

PRAYER: Dear God, thank you for the privilege to know that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Please reveal yourself more to me in Jesus’ name. Amen
