“The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)

The promise in this verse is a reward for Fasting which is conditional for those who through their faith in Christ do deeds of kindness, charity, justice and generosity by reaching out beyond their personal needs to meet the needs of others, in addition to abstinence from food. That is the true Fasting acceptable to God that brings answers and blessings. Fasting goes beyond denying ourselves food to applying His word to our community and thereby giving God pleasure.

ACTION: Let us obey the God-given rules of true fasting in Isaiah 58 in order to receive the spiritual and physical rewards of fasting.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, please grant us the grace to love and obey You, and also love our fellow men as ourselves.
