28 MARCH
THEY MOCKED HIM
“He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.” (Matthew 27:43)
As we remember Jesus crucified on the cross, there were different reactions–some were weeping; one of the robbers appealed for mercy; some women prepared spices for His burial; someone offered his tomb. Even the earth shook with an earthquake and rocks split; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The dead were not left out, as the tombs opened and many bodies of the saints were raised.
Despite all these signs, some mocked him in various ways: “He trusts in God, let God deliver him now!” Some gave Him bitter vinegar to drink to quench his thirst.
God had and always has the final laugh. A “bad Friday” became a Good Friday. Jesus took our pains and sins to the grave. He resurrected with a glorious victory. He is the only one who died but did not remain dead. JESUS IS ALIVE!
What or who is mocking you? What or who is bringing the name of Christ in your life to disrepute? He suffered that you might be free from suffering; He received stripes and a crown of thorns that you might be healed; He died and rose that you might live–live abundantly on earth and eternally in heaven.
Rise and shine! Stand firm! Hold tight! Victory is assured. “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.. Then he warns them in his anger and terrifies them in his fury.” (Psalm 2:1,4).
ACTION: Rejoice! God is all–powerful, A knowing and Ever Present!
PRAYER: May the Lord answer my mockers with His mighty power!
