HEALTHY THROUGH DIET
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
(1 Corinthians 10:31)
In the Bible, Daniel and the three other Hebrew men, while in captivity, chose not to eat the king’s delicacies and wine but instead to eat vegetables and drink only water. At the end of ten days trial, they were looking better and healthier than the others.
A diet rich in vegetables and fruits can lower blood pressure, reduce risk of heart disease and stroke, prevent some types of cancer, lower risk of eye and digestive problems, and have a positive effect upon blood sugar, which can help keep appetite in check, as advised in Harvard University’s The Nutrition Source.
A carefree lifestyle that encourages inappropriate diet could lead to sickness and even premature death which do not glorify God, as our body is the temple of the living God. Healthy diet is a choice. It is better to snack on vegetables like carrots and cucumber, as well as fruits, rather than the usual pastries.
The healthiest drink is water. Taste for sugary drinks, once acquired, is difficult to let go. Parents should make the sacrifice of bringing up their children with balanced diet so that when they become adolescents and young adults, they will not see junk food as escape routes to handling hunger. It has been said that the ponmo delicacy has ruined the once-thriving leather and footwear industry in Nigeria. By controlling our appetite for ponmo, for example, we will save ourselves from the silent killer called bad cholesterol and provide employment for our youths in the consequently revived leather and footwear industry.
ACTION: Determine to eat healthy.
PRAYER: Father God, please grant me the grace to discipline myself to eat and drink healthy, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
