JESUS, THE WORD OF GOD
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.”(John 1:1–3)
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”(Genesis 1:1, 3)
“He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.” (Revelation 19:13)
For the creation of the heavens and the earth, God spoke a “Word” and it was exactly as He said. John 1:1–3 and Revelation 19:13 tell us that this Word of God is Jesus. All things were made through Him. I wonder how the world would be without words– spoken, written or with signs etc. To claim to know Jesus without reading the Word (the Bible), is not to know Him.
Our prayers and communication with God are through words, spoken, written or in the mind. I remember an interesting quote on a billboard in Lagos: “The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”
A story is told of a group of ministers who were attending a conference at a private countryside resort. Several of them set off to explore the area, and came upon an old bridge that crossed a quiet pond. Unfortunately, they didn’t read a sign declaring the bridge to be unsafe. As they stood in the middle of the bridge, the caretaker came running after them. “Hey! You there! Get off that bridge!” he protested. “It’s all right,” declared one of the ministers, “We are in this resort with permission. We are ministers from the conference.”
Words were written, words were spoken, but none was heeded! Do you wonder what happened to the ministers?
What is the sign on the bridge you want to cross? Jesus is the Word of God!
ACTION: Determine to pay more attention to the dictates of God’s Word.
PRAYER: Help me, Lord, to faithfully read and obey the injunctions in your Word.
