10 MAY

TRIUMPHANT FAITH

“Be still and know that I am God!”

 (Psalm 46:10)

Psalm 46 was written by the sons of Korah, based on experiences of extreme adversity from which God provided deliverance. Some say it was during the reign of King Jehoshaphat, when enemies, consisting of Moab, Ammon and Edom, gathered against Israel and God intervened supernaturally as their strength and help. Others say it was when King Hezekiah of Judah was surrounded by the army of Sennacherib, King of Assyria. Forty six towns and villages in Judah had been sacked. Over 200,000 residents had been taken captive, along with much spoil. At least 185,000 soldiers surrounded Jerusalem in mockery, and there was panic and hopelessness in Judah but Hezekiah knew His God. Proud Sennacherib did not reckon with the fact that Hezekiah’s God is the living God who will not be mocked. In triumphant faith, Hezekiah prayed, God spoke, and in one night the angel of the Lord defeated Sennacherib by killing 185,000 of his soldiers. (2 Kings 18:13 – 19:37).

In the case of Jehoshaphat and the three armies, initially he was afraid but he set himself to seek the Lord and proclaimed a fast throughout Judah. In triumphant faith, he and all Judah called upon the Lord, proclaiming His power and might. The Lord spoke thus: “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

In quietness and the power of those who know their God, they sang praises as the armies fought and destroyed each other. As surely as the Lord spoke, so it was.

ACTION: Are you facing extreme challenges?  In triumphant faith, be still and know that He is God; believe and trust in the living God who cannot be mocked.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord that you always arise to deliver us from challenging situations.
