03 JULY

WALKING IN TRUST (2)

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward…”(1 Samuel 16:13)

“David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.” (2 Samuel 5:4)

Josephus, the historian, puts David’s age at ten years when he was anointed, but some others say he was likely to have been fifteen. He became king at age 30. This means that David must have waited for between 15 and 20 years, from the time he was anointed to the time he actually ascended the throne.

Interestingly, it was not just by a word of promise that David became king; it was a divinely ordained anointing that brought the power of the Spirit of the Lord on him. Yet, he was tested, harassed and chased after for destruction by Saul, the king. Like gold, David passed through many afflictions in the refining fire of life (especially within this period) but he came forth shining and triumphant, with a stronger trust and faith in God. It must have been tough but he never doubted that ONE DAY he would be king. No wonder, God called him “a man after my own heart.

“Now, think. What has God promised you personally? What are God’s promises for you in His Word? How long have you waited? What trials are you going through? Are you trusting and obeying in patience and hope that ONE DAY, the trials will expire and the promise will surely come?

ACTION: Read, meditate on, and memorise God’s promises. Listen, TRUST and OBEY!

PRAYER: O God, help me to steadfastly trust in you and your promises; and strengthen me to wait patiently till your purpose is accomplished in my life.
