13 SEPTEMBER

SHE WON HIS FAVOUR (RUTH)

“Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?”  (Ruth 2:5, NKJV)

Was it Ruth’s external beauty that attracted Boaz? She was different from the Jewish women. Was that the attraction? I imagine that Boaz might just have noticed this particular young woman who worked undistracted, dedicated and diligent, as she bent over and gleaned in his fields.

Some of the other women might have been loitering around, but not so with Ruth. Then, as she raised her head to wipe off the sweat from her forehead, he noticed she was very beautiful and different. Her beauty was one of God’s gifts that brought her into her destiny. Boaz could not hold back his curiosity any longer. Without a word, she had already won his favour.

The words of Mandy Hale ring so true: “There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” Are you beautiful? Do you use your gifts for God’s purpose?

Ruth had determined to follow the one true God, as she had said to Naomi, “Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.” The inner beauty of one who fears the Lord usually radiates to the external and attracts others, and the favour of God and man is released for the right purposes.

“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).

ACTION: Dare to be different–live a life of diligence and discipline.

PRAYER: Lord, please, make me attractive before the helpers of my destiny.
