CARING FOR THE NEEDY
“For I was hungry and you gave me food.”
(Matthew 25:35)
I remember when I first started receiving revelations for The Roses, I kept
hearing the Lord say, “Feed my people”. I interpreted this as physical food and thought of several ways in which I could feed the hungry. Most often when I did bulk purchases of food items, I would send some to those I knew were in need.
However, as The Roses started off in 2007 and grew, we expanded our
understanding of this, feeding all with the spiritual food of the Word of God.
Also, in addition to giving food items (“fish”) we began to teach “how to fish”.
We started a skills acquisition programme and by 2010 officially started a
programme: Educate one child per widow in a tertiary institution.
God has graciously given us a few partners. When God’s children are hungry and have physical needs, our Lord is hungry. God rewards those who obey
Him. We also give financial assistance to vulnerable widows to enhance their skills and small scale businesses.
I watched a video of a social experiment. The presenter masqueraded as a
homeless man who had family problems but no money and asked a homeless man for food and then money. The man gave him his last sandwich, even though he hadn’t eaten for 24 hours, as well as his meagre life savings, without hesitation. He willingly gave up what he had saved for a vision that would bring him out of poverty. In return, he received more than he needed from the presenter. God gives us more than we give, more than we ask or think. We are given much as trustees of His wealth for those in need.
ACTION: Find a way to obey and feed the hungry, physically and spiritually.

PRAYER: Father, give me a heart that sows positively, generously and
sacrificially for the good of others and the glory of your name.
