22ND OCTOBER
AGE IS JUST A NUMBER
“…My strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going
and coming.” (Joshua 14:11)
Caleb was 40 years when, on God’s instructions, Moses sent out twelve spies to the land of Canaan to assess the land and bring some of its fruits. Ten of the spies brought frightening, negative reports. Caleb, in unwavering faith and obedience to Jehovah God, courageously encouraged the people that they had the ability to overcome the giants and difficulties, and possess the land. He was joined by Joshua but the people did not listen to the minority report.
Whose report do we believe when we face challenges? God promised Caleb
a particular mountain as his possession. 45 years later, the cities were still the same, fortified with giants. At 85 years, Caleb still had the same unwavering faith in the power of God to conquer and not in the number of his age. He declared that he was as strong as he was then but his faith and confidence was not really in his physical strength but in God. Sarah and Abraham believed God’s promise and had their son of promise at age 90 and 100 respectively.
The power of God in us makes our age just a number for whatever God has
promised. No matter how long, He fulfils His word. Caleb conquered the land and took possession. God’s strength never diminishes. God is still honouring the promises in His Word that He made thousands of years ago.
Are we using our age as an excuse not to expect fulfilment of God’s promises or not honouring our promises? With God, our age is a number!
ACTION: Depend on God to fulfil His promises for your life, regardless of your
age.
PRAYER: Faithful God, I rely on you to do unto me according to your promises
for my life. Help me to remain steadfast in faith.
