5TH NOVEMBER
WHO SENDS RAIN?
“Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab: As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” (1 Kings 17:1)
Elijah spoke a word and for three-and-a-half years, it did not rain in Israel. Can I as a Christian, filled with the Holy Spirit, speak thus and the rains will cease? What would my motive be? God’s glory or mine?
King Ahab had led Israel into the worship of Baal. Baal was believed to be the god of rain and abundant harvest. Elijah stood as God’s representative to declare the word that God had laid in his heart. He was to show who the real rainmaker is. I can imagine the priests and prophets of Baal fasting and praying for days on end without results. God was glorified.
We know how rain is formed scientifically but can we explain the time and volume of rain, the droughts, the floods and the tsunamis? Through Elijah, God showed that He is the God of rain. What is God showing the world through us?
God is willing and will use us to declare His word that will be fulfilled in situations that will glorify Him. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. God wants to show His power through us! Everest Storms during his 27th reading of the Bible, found that there are 7,487 promises of God to man in it. Thus, even if we declare one promise per day, it will take us over 20 years to fully appropriate all of God’s promises in the Scripture!
Let us speak the Word, as God ministers and as in scriptures, and believe it even when it sounds impossible. Let us speak courageously against situations that bring God’s name into disrepute; let us speak in sickness and in challenges of life and declare God’s Word to fulfil God’s purpose. Miracles bring people to Christ.
ACTION: Start now. Read the Bible, believe and declare at least one promise of God upon yourself and your household.
PRAYER: Lord, by the power of your immutable Word, let there be rains of your grace, mercy, goodness, favour and abundance upon my life and my household.
