SECRETS OF ANSWERED PRAYERS (5)
(PRAYING THE WORD)
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
(Hebrews 4:12)
One of the secrets of answered prayers is to claim and affirm the promises of God. Nehemiah prayed to the Lord, saying, “Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name” (Nehemiah 1:8-11).
He reminded God of a promise He made to the nation of Israel. This is not because God needs to be reminded nor is it that He forgets what He has promised. It is more because it helps us remember what God has promised and use the authority He has given us. God cannot change but He can change His mind through our intercession – for instance, the addition of 15 years to Hezekiah when he cried for more years after God had told him his time was up. Also, the Lord saved Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah because of Abraham’s intercession. God expects us to use the authority He has given us in His word.
ACTION: Confidently pray the Word, knowing that God will do what He says He will do , “…and the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35b).
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your unfailing Word.
