6TH NOVEMBER
RAIN AS A WEAPON
“Then Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 9:23)
In Genesis, Noah obeyed God completely; so he and his family were saved when God destroyed the earth with rain. Yes, God promised never again to destroy all men with the floods (Genesis 9:11) but rain may be a weapon of punishment for some people and lands, as a consequence of sin and disobedience. This, however, is not to say that every flood is a punishment.
Through Moses, God used heavy rains with storms of thunder and hailstones as a weapon against disobedient Pharaoh and Egypt. He may still use same today.
Rain became a weapon through Moses’s obedience to divine injunction and can be a weapon through our own obedience as well. Rain is usually more of a blessing than punishment. It provides water for farming and household use, as well as providing a habitat for fish. God may use anything in creation to fulfil His purpose.
There are natural processes of excessive rains, rapid melting ice, storms, tsunamis, as well as drought, that are not under man’s control but God’s. However, there are some under man’s control like clogged drains, lack of proper drainage systems, building houses on drainage channels, reclaiming lands from the ocean, etc. These are consequences of man’s actions and inactions. These we must correct through right physical decisions and actions.
ACTION: As a child of God, you have been given authority and dominion over physical and spiritual forces – use these, as guided by God’s Spirit!
PRAYER: Lord, grant me grace to understand the resources you have given me to fight the battles of life.
