HEALTHY THROUGH EXERCISE

“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

(1 Timothy 4:8, KJV)

Let us work out and get that little profit from exercise. Just 20 to 30 minutes of brisk walk daily will reduce body fat, enhance blood glucose control, improve memory, reduce stress, boost immunity, improve balance and coordination and, of course, could provide some time for prayer. Exercise is also said to improve academic performance in youths. Conversely, an inactive lifestyle has many health risks.

In the office, you could hang the remote controls for the air-conditioning unit and the television set on the wall far from your desk, so you would need to stand and move around to use them. Keep your phones on a small table behind your seat, so you would need to move (even if it means swinging the chair and stretching your arm) to use them.

If you enjoy eating your meals with your fingers, do not sit for the washing bowl and napkin to be brought to you; walk to the washing bay (or to the washing bowl placed at the other end of the dining room) before and after meal. On a long journey, find opportunities to move around and stretch your feet. The bottom line is to avoid prolonged sedentary lifestyle.

ACTION: Work on getting your BMI- Body Mass Index within safe limits.

PRAYER: Father God, by your grace, help me to create the time for regular exercise, to your honour and glory, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
