FRAGRANCE OF THE ROSES – 13 MAY

13 MAY

THE FLOODS COVERED THE BRIDGE

“Say to them, ‘As I live, declares the Lord, what you have said in my hearing I will do to you’.”

(Numbers 14:28).

I read the following instructive story some time ago:

Segun, Yisa and Emeka were on their way back from a meeting at the neighbouring town. Each was driving his own car and it was raining heavily. Suddenly, they came to the rickety bridge they had crossed a few hours earlier and it was almost submerged in the river which had flooded from the heavy rains. They needed to get to the other side, but had no idea how to do so.

Segun prayed to God, “Please God, make this bridge more visible so that I can cross over.” As the waters flowed, the bridge became more visible and he was able to drive across while revving the car vigorously, swerving from side to side and nearly plunging over. His car clutch was burnt by the time he crossed over.

As they watched, it seemed the river was pushing the bridge up and down. Yisa prayed to God, “Please God, make this bridge more visible and hold it firm so that I can drive across safely.” The flow of the waters slowed down and the bridge seemed steady as if an unseen hand was holding it. He drove, splashing the water across his car windscreen and holding firm to steady the steering wheel. Wow, he drove across but by the time he crossed over, his car engine stalled from the excess water that had penetrated.

Having seen all these, Emeka prayed to God, saying, “My Lord, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Please direct me, open my eyes to see your perfect way to drive home safely and smoothly and grant me a heart to obey.” As he rounded off his prayers and sat quietly in his car, he heard a sound of a motorcycle to his right. As he turned and looked, he flagged down the motorcyclist who offered and led him through a narrow and winding road through the villages. It was a longer route but he drove safely and smoothly home without having to drive across any bridge and with no damage to his car

Child of God, His word above says He will do whatever He hears us s! Be careful with negative words. But Scripture confirms scripture. John 15:7 says that if we abide in him and His words abide in us, we should ask whatever we wish, and it will be done for us.

ACTION:  Stay close to Christ! Let His word dwell in us! Pray the Word!

PRAYER: Dear God, help me to be sensitive to your direction.
