15TH NOVEMBER
HE CLONED RABBITS
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”
(Philippians 3:8)
In a very competitive world, many of us have accomplished excellent things but we hear of those whose accomplishments are either exceedingly above
all others or who have been privileged to get wider publicity. I heard of a Nigerian-American scientist who cloned rabbits successfully. That seems like an exceedingly brilliant achievement. However, his wife is said to have cautioned him not to proceed on that path, as only God should give life. Interestingly, he accepted the admonition and decided to count his achievement a loss because of the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus.
If that scientist had continued on that path, he might have succeeded in cloning a human by now and had his name in the Guinness Book of Records, but what next? Here’s what he said: “I am a student for life, one who feels that science and God will give answers to any problem.” He gave up the cloning ambition but has won several international awards in other areas. He is presently a research director/professor in many institutes and universities in the United States and Nigeria. This is in our generation.
Apostle Paul, in his time, also gave up several things because of the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus Christ. How do we value our personal relationship with Christ? Is it more important than anything else? To know Christ more intimately day after day should be our goal.
ACTION: Time to check up your values and pursuits. Is there anything you wouldn’t be able to willingly give up for Christ?
PRAYER: Teach me my God and King, in all things, thee to see, and what I do in anything, to do it as for thee, in Jesus’ name. Amen. (George Herbert).
