STOP THE ARGUMENT (2)
“For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6, KJV).
“Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.” (Proverbs 26:5, KJV)
As Jesus promised, God the father sent the Holy Spirit to be with and live within believers to teach and bring our learnings to memory, guide, comfort and fill us with His power and glory. Over and over, questions were thrown at Jesus to trap him or begin an argument. He answered with wisdom and knowledge and the argument was stopped.
Knowledge comes from God. He has given us the ability to study and learn and use them. Jesus used His knowledge to answer the Sadducees who came to him with a question on the resurrection. In Matthew 22:23–33, they narrated that a man died and his six brothers married the same wife, one after the other. Now, as each died and none had children, who would be her husband at the resurrection? Jesus, with His knowledge of the Scriptures told them there is no marriage at the resurrection. That silenced the Sadducees. That was the right time to answer the fool to expose his pride and folly.
Wisdom and knowledge stop arguments. We may stop the argument by not responding or under other circumstances we can answer the silly or immature person “according to his folly”. The answer we give should expose the weakness of his thinking. His thinking needs to be challenged, for the person’s sake, “lest he be wise in his own eyes”, that is, answer him lest he think himself so cunning that his reasoning is sound.
ACTION: Speak only when necessary. That you will have knowledge that will stop arguments.
PRAYER: Help me Lord, to be more, disciplined in the use of my tongue.
