23RD OCTOBER

COMMITMENT BRINGS PROSPERITY

“Thus Hezekiah did…what was good and right and faithful before the
Lord his God…seeking his God, he did with all his heart, and prospered.”
(2 Chronicles 31:20-21)

Hezekiah became king at 25 years and in his duties he hit the ground running. His father was unfaithful to God but he chose to follow the ways of David, his ancestor, the man after God’s heart. Whose example are we following? What examples are we leaving for our generations to follow? Hezekiah led the people of Judah in spiritual renewal.

Our lives are in God’s hands, so we should do whatever we can today. A
popular and well-respected businessman and politician once ran for the post of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In an election that was declared the freest and fairest presidential elections by observers at that time, he was believed to have won overwhelmingly. However, he was denied his mandate and imprisoned when he made attempts to claim it. After about four years in detention, he was said to be ready to recant his mandate saying that if he couldn’t be president of Nigeria, he was content to be president of his family. Alas he didn’t have that chance! The man died!
So, whoever we have responsibility over – especially our families – we should keep the fire of spiritual revival burning, as if today were our last day. No one knows when.

Hezekiah also interceded for his people. He aggressively removed evil
influences in his life, and was not moved by ridicule. He worshipped God with his heart and treasures, contributing generously to God’s work. In return, God prospered him. What are we doing in return for God’s love? God rewards those who diligently seek Him.

ACTION: Take a cue from Hezekiah’s life and be a righteous reformer in your environment

PRAYER: Lord, grant me grace to search my heart and renew my commitment to you daily.
