THE COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW
“I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:
I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”
(Genesis 9:11-13)
The rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant. It appeared in the Bible for the first time after the floods with which God destroyed the whole earth and all living creatures in the time of Noah, except those that entered the ark that Noah had obediently built. God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign of the covenant He made with Noah in His mercy and for a remembrance, that He will never again destroy the earth with a flood.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet – our God is a God of beauty! These beautiful and vibrant colours of the rainbow also signify and manifest God’s glory and power. A remembrance of this covenant “for all generations” which includes us, comes each time the rainbow appears in the sky.
Even the beauty of the glorious colours of flowers we take for granted around us and all of God’s creation manifest the glory and power of God. We have a covenant of abundant life. God created man and all things for His pleasure, glory and honour.
