JESUS REMEMBERS
“Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” (John 11: 16, NKJV)
Two days after Jesus was told that his friend, Lazarus, was sick, He decided to go to Bethany. Bethany was about two miles away from Jerusalem, where he had escaped from the hands of the Jews who had wanted to stone him just a few weeks earlier. That was definitely dangerous.
His disciples tried to discourage Him but He was determined to go. “Lazarus is dead,” He said to them. “Dead?” Knowing how much He loved Lazarus and His sisters, the disciples were confused. Was Jesus going on a suicide mission? Didn’t He realise how dangerous it was to go anywhere near Jerusalem? Did he want to die with Lazarus? I can imagine some already stepping back, away from him.
Surprisingly, Thomas stood, waving his hands and saying, “Come on, let us go, even it means dying with Him.”
What extraordinary love and courage! This act seems lost but our Lord remembers. When Thomas doubted Jesus’ resurrection, Jesus came to show him the evidence.
Have you worked silently for the Kingdom of God in love and courage but no one seems to acknowledge you? Have you loved and sacrificed for others faithfully and your love seems unrequited? Jesus remembers!
ACTION: Are almost getting discouraged that your labours for God and others are not being noticed or appreciated enough? Cheer up and go labour on. Your reward is near!
PRAYER: Oh Lord, my Father, I thank you that you remember always and my labour of love is never in vain.
