JESUS, THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”
(Jeremiah 31:3)
At age 11 in Denham House in Queen’s School, Enugu, I remember how I would kneel down for my personal morning prayers and recite meaningfully the words of the morning prayers in the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Communion and do same for the evening prayers. My parents, through the home, school and church, had laid the right foundations.
The Lord took us right through the turbulent years of the civil war; we survived. The greeting then was: “Happy Survival!” At the end of the war in January, 1970, revival swept through the Eastern part of Nigeria. The same day, my two sisters and I came forward during an altar call to publicly declare and commit our lives to Jesus as Lord and Master of our lives.
Some people think because they have attended church from childhood, they are Christians. There is a need for a personal decision and commitment to follow Christ.
A deeper passion for my Lord consumed me but sometimes through the years, I moved one step forward and two steps backwards but the Lord was my Rock and Stay. He held me tight and showed me that nothing can pluck me from His hands.
Who is your first Love?
ACTION: Can you meaningfully sing the words of this popular song to Jesus?
Jesus
| You are the love of my life | Verse: | ||
| You are the hope that I cling to | I wouldn’t take one step without You | ||
| You mean, more than this world to me | I could never go on | ||
| I couldn’t live one day without You | |||
| I wouldn’t trade You for silver or gold | I don’t have the strength | ||
| I wouldn’t trade You for riches untold | To make it on my own | ||
| You are, You are my everything |
PRAYER: Lord, I cannot do without you. I depend on you, always.
