23 JULY

SIGNS OF JESUS’ DIVINITY (4)

“There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.(John 6:9-11, KJV)

A multitude had followed Jesus, some from the Pool of Bethesda, where He had instantly healed the man who had battled an infirmity for 38 years. Others joined along the way, watching in amazement at the healings and His profound teachings. He felt what they felt. They felt His compassion through His words and actions. Before any in the crowd of five thousand men cried out in hunger, Jesus had already started the process of providing food for them. The process to feed us and quench our “hunger” is on long before we know. His disciples wondered where they would get enough food to feed over 5,000 people; and even if they did, where would they get enough money to pay for it? They had seen Jesus heal the sick and expound the mysteries of the Kingdom but how to feed 5,000 was beyond their imagination. Miraculously, all were fed. Jesus knows our thoughts and desires, even the unexpressed. He is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. Having had some miraculous encounters with Jesus, C.H. Spurgeon wrote: “His love in time past forbids me to think He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink. Each sweet Ebenezer I have in review confirms His good pleasure to help me quite through.”

Jesus is Jehovah El-Shaddai, the Almighty God, our All-Sufficient God.

ACTION: Prepare a list of your needs that you want the All-Sufficient God to meet before the end of this month.

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for always doing more than I ask or think.
