JOHN’S IDENTITY OF JESUS (6)

“I am the way, the truth and the life…”(John 14:6)

I imagine the picture that shows a very deep and wide gulf or valley between God on one side and man on the other. Man cannot ponder rightly how to cross over to God, as he looks longingly at the beauty, peace and joy of heaven. God stretches out His arms and allows His son, Jesus, to place a cross to reach the other side, using His body as a narrow path. Man walks steadily and slowly across in his lifetime. Looking at the sides may be very frightening, as the valley is filled with wild animals and other dangers, which means certain death, if he stumbles and falls into it.

On another side is a broad road, filled with seemingly exciting things but the end of which is the valley of destruction. Walking “in the Way” is uniting our life with Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, to take us to the Father and give us all the benefits of being God’s children here and eternally.

Matthew 7:13-14 counsels: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it…” (NKJV).

Jesus is the Way. It may be narrow and seemingly difficult but it is the only sure way and it can take the whole world. Jesus, as the Truth, is the reality of all God’s promises and joins His divine life to ours as the Life.

ACTION: Only in Jesus will you find true satisfaction. Accept no other.

PRAYER: Jesus, I receive you and acknowledge you as the only Way, the Truth and the Life.
