11TH NOVEMBER
ASK RIGHT
“Ask, and it shall be given you”
(Matthew 7:7)
Ask? Ask for what? Ask for blessings of wealth, healing and good health? Yes, all are in God’s Word! However, we learn from both Solomon, who asked God for wisdom; and John, who prayed for Gaius in 3 John 2, that it is more important to ask for intangible but eternal gifts, such as intimacy with God, wisdom, knowledge, patience, love and understanding. These are the foundations on which lasting blessings of the tangible things are built.
Wealth is excellent and is needed for the expansion of God’s Kingdom here on earth but it can be lost in the twinkling of an eye. Healing and good health – our heritage as children of God – have already been paid for through the stripes of Jesus; but one day, life will be over, as we return to God and the dust from which we were made.
Sometimes we ask for the wrong things and act on the wrong premise and as a result God does not grant our requests. When we seek intimacy with God more, we are sensitive to His Spirit who helps us to ask for what God desires for us.
God is a loving Father who understands, cares and is always willing to give us good gifts to enjoy this life. A Pastor told a story of how, in an aircraft mid-air, he pulled a handle to pull out his tray table with all his might but did not succeed. His friend also helped him to no avail. He later realised that what he was pulling was the handle to the exit door. What a calamity that would have been!
ACTION: Ask God for your needs, but ask right and keep listening.
PRAYER: Holy Spirit, teach me to pray, and to pray aright.
