29TH NOVEMBER
A GOOD FIGHT
“I felt the need of writing at once to encourage you to fight on for the faith which once and for all God has given to his people. (Jude 1:3, GNT)
Although this incident happened almost 60 years ago, I still remember it clearly with laughter. The rough boys in my Primary Four class did not seem ready to study. During tests and examinations, they would want to copy my answers. I received threats of being beaten up, as I refused to comply. In spite of warnings from our teacher and on a few occasions from the Head Teacher, this persisted.
On one of such occasions after school, the boys formed a circle around me so I would not escape. One of them moved in threateningly. The shy and seemingly overprotected little girl they all knew moved quickly, took him completely unawares, lifted him up and threw him to the ground. In the pandemonium that ensued, they all ran off. That ended the threats.
There are daily threats to our faith. We must take up our shield of faith and take the devil unawares with our prayer fire, reject manipulated doctrine and contend for correct doctrine that manifests in righteous behaviour and stand on Jesus Christ as the path to eternal salvation.
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: A time of war, and a time of peace. Sometimes the peace we seek can only be obtained through a fight. We must fight when it is the time for war!
ACTION: Do you have challenges in your Christian life, family, health, finances, career, etc.? Fight in the strength of God and refuse to surrender to the forces of weakness and discouragement.
PRAYER: Oh, Lord, strengthen me in my weakness. Make me a tireless fighter for your Kingdom
