04 DECEMBER
FROM LITTLE TO GREAT VALUE
“The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.”
(2 Samuel 6:11, NKJV)
David was angry and aborted the journey of bringing the Ark to Jerusalem. He just ordered that the Ark be taken to Obed-Edom’s house. What? Fear would have gripped all, including Obed-Edom. He was a servant of little value. Knowing that Uzzah had just died from touching the Ark (which was a violation of God’s commandment), would he be able to obey totally in order to live?
However, Obed-Edom was different. He was a Levite who had been well tutored by his father and he loved the presence of God and was faithful. Do we teach our children the ways of God, to obey His laws? Do we bring them up to love the presence of God? It is not too late to start now!
Obed-Edom’s neighbours must have peeped into his house daily, expecting bad news but instead they saw, heard and touched the blessings upon his family in these three months. David heard, too, understood and determined to get it right; so he moved the Ark to Jerusalem.
Obed-Edom became a gatekeeper, a musician, and a doorkeeper for the Ark. From a servant, he became a worship leader of great worth and is mentioned along with Asaph, the chief musician.
Obed-Edom, by his faith, attitude, and actions, created a legacy of faith and relationship with the Lord. What legacy are we creating? The Lord rewarded Obed-Edom by establishing a legacy of generational blessings. God is waiting to bless us!
ACTION: Resolve to live a life of total obedience to God, and to teach same to your children.
PRAYER: Lord, make me a beneficiary of the blessings of obedience to your commandments, in Jesus’ name.
