AND IT HAPPENED: FOOLISHNESS
“Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none.”
(Exodus 16:27, NKJV)
Why do we sometimes act contrary to the instructions of God and expect the results of obedience? It is utter foolishness. Can man be wiser than God? No!
In the wilderness, on their journey out of Egypt to the Promised Land, God had rained manna as food and then quail as meat. The specific instructions were to gather food daily for six days, gather double on the sixth day for the seventh day and observe the seventh day of rest. Contrary to that, some gathered more than they needed for the day and it was spoilt by morning; and on the Lord’s Day, the seventh day, some went out to gather but there was none. Time and resources were wasted. It is also most likely that those people who went out on the seventh day did not gather double on the sixth day, as instructed. They might have had to go hungry.
All the instructions of the Bible are meant to be obeyed completely, even when we do not understand the reasons behind them. We love the numerous promises of the Bible and desire to appropriate them to ourselves but most are conditional on obedience. We cannot continue in unrighteousness and expect the rewards of righteousness.
God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows that he shall reap.
ACTION: Resolve totrust and obey completely.
PRAYER: Give me a heart of obedience and wisdom, Oh Lord!
