“Submit yourselves then to God.” (James 4:7a)
We may say we believe in God but are unable to trust Him when we do not receive what we want or are faced with unexpected challenges. Are we willing to give up attitudes of worldly self-reliance? Are we willing to forego seeking what we want at all costs but instead seek to submit to, obey God and willingly receive what He offers and accept it as good? Are we willing to love and serve Him and others? Those are mighty weapons of spiritual warfare!
In the preceding verses, God describes friendship with the world as adultery against Him. He gives the humble more grace to submit over and over again but opposes the proud and self-reliant. He calls us to surrender our will and desires to Him.
ACTION: We will willingly and humbly submit ourselves to God at such a time as this.
PRAYER: Grant us the grace, Oh Lord, to give up our desires for Yours!
