04 JULY

WALKING IN TRUST (3)

“And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah…”(2 Samuel 2:4)

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning? O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; and in the night season, and am not silent.”(Psalm 22: 1-2, NKJV)

Even as king, the suffering was not yet over for David – but, this time around, most of it resulted from his own sins. He committed adultery with Bathsheba. He complicated his sin further by arranging the death of Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, while trying to cover up his sin. Also, he did not play his role as a father to discipline his children. Simply put, David had his weaknesses, just like every other person. However, he was always quick to genuinely repent, make amends and never return to the same sin. He had a good heart and loved God. God looks on the heart of man and not on the outward appearance.

Unlike Saul his predecessor whom God rejected, God found David worthy of His calling and blessings. Despite his many trials and failings, he believed and trusted God’s promises and power to deliver. He never sought or carried out vengeance, even when he had the opportunity that seemed God-given. He ultimately became the greatest king of Israel. God established him and his throne forever, bringing forth Christ as Saviour and Redeemer through his bloodline.

God’s promises never fail! God never said it would be easy but He said He would be with us!

ACTION: Are you going through some pain? Why? If for your sins and mistakes, repent, turn away, trust and obey! For the sake of the Kingdom, don’t give up, trust and obey.

PRAYER: Lord, please strengthen me to continue in trust and obedience, as you refine and purify me to continually glorify your name.
