IT’S NOT THAT SERIOUS!

“Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations: The Lord has done great things for them. The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.”

(Psalms 126: 2-3).

“It is not that serious!” I very often remember this phrase from the eloquent and very meaningful speech my son, Obi, gave at his sister’s wedding. Yes, we should always remember that, in all issues of life! Not because the issues themselves are not that serious but because our tears and worries may not bring the solutions.

Consider the biblical story of David getting ready to fight Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. There stood this 9-feet-6-inches giant, openly threatening Israel, the chosen people of God. King Saul and all Israelites were “dismayed and greatly afraid”. I imagine David laughing as he remembered how God gave him strength and he tore the lions and the bears apart with his hands. Even when his brother Eliab was angry with him, David seemed to say: “Hi big brother, it’s not that serious, God has done greater things many times before.”

The King gave him his armour and weapons. “It’s not that serious!”, David must have said as he rejected the armour, weapons and all contrary talk and feelings, trusting and going only in the name of The Lord of Hosts, taking seemingly insignificant tools but which he had previously tested. Ultimately, David brought victory to Israel!

“It’s not that serious” when we live our lives in the name of Jesus and leave our lives in the hands of The Lord God of Hosts. Even death which is the final bus stop of this life “is not that serious”, for the Christian, for whom it is just a door into eternal bliss!

ACTION/PRAYER: Laugh more often. “It’s not that serious!” God always has a solution! Call on him for all things.
