GODLY WISDOM BRINGS PURITY

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”

(James 3:17)

The first effect of godly wisdom is to purify the mind, working to make the man chaste, upright, sincere, candid, holy and clean in actions, words and thoughts. It involves innocence – fleeing from any form of crime or blame. It includes sexual purity – fleeing from fornication and adultery. This then leads to a train of other blessings that come from treating others with love and respect.  “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).

Can man truly be pure? God works with our motives, desires and prayers. God grants His grace to the heart that sincerely desires to live a pure life in His will. It is part of being a “new creation”. When one becomes born again, old habits, old impure thoughts give way to new edifying habits and new thoughts, with God’s words hidden in the heart to avoid sin.

ACTION:  Be sensitive to impurity and flee from every appearance of evil.

PRAYER: Lord, by your Spirit, please change me into Christ’s image from glory to glory, from day to day!
