THE SECRETS REVEALED (2)
“The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.” (Psalms 25:14)
I like the definition of friendship as a relationship between people who like each other and enjoy each other’s company. The more intimate the relationship, the more the individuals share and keep each other’s secrets. How wonderful to have the friendship of our Lord and have Him confide in us and reveal His awesome secrets to us! Of course, the Lord is always available to listen to our secrets – our joys, passions, plans, complaints, distress, and so forth.
No wonder man is a manufacturer of amazing things (the aeroplane, for example). The secrets revealed by the Creator of all things surely implies that, as friends of God, we may receive secrets of the mysteries of the Kingdom; secrets that lead to greatness and all-round excellence. That gives Him pleasure!
God’s Word encourages us, just as He expects our words to our friends to bring encouragement. At a birthday thanksgiving a few days ago, a friend shared that she had been friends with the celebrant from childhood. She described how in the early stages of their marriages of over 30 years, both had encouraged each other “to jump over some hurdles” in their homes. No wonder, it is said that “a problem shared is a problem halved.” But I add, as a precaution: “A problem shared with a faithful and God- fearing friend…!” ACTION: Make it a habit to commune with God daily as a friend – talk to Him about your concerns, challenges and aspirations; and listen to Him too!
PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace to honour, reverence, love and trust you; and help me to be trustworthy too, that I may always be your friend.
