GODLY WISDOM BRINGS GENTLENESS
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle …”
(James 3:17)
Choosing gentleness over perverseness manifests godly character and wisdom. It also makes one a happier person. An article in Wisdom Commons states that gentleness means recognising that the world around us is fragile, especially other people. It is recognising our own capacity to do harm and choosing instead to be tender, soft-spoken, soft-hearted, and careful.
When we are gentle, we touch the world and our loved ones in ways that protect and preserve them. Being gentle doesn’t mean being weak; gentleness can be firm, even powerful, active rather than reactive. The gentle are far from being proud, arrogant, obstinate and overbearing. The gentle give others a chance to express their opinion, even when it is contrary to their own, which may be the correct one, and a chance to maintain their dignity irrespective of the circumstances.
A gentle word or touch can channel our energy into healing or making peace. That is godly wisdom!
To be gentle is to have immense strength, a character that is consistent, reliable, and steady, which attracts the trust of others. It makes one aware of the needs of the people around them and willing to bring their natural and peaceful disposition to bring solution.
ACTION: Gentleness can be acquired; so make efforts.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me a gentle disposition.
