10TH OCTOBER

YOU CLOTHED ME

“I was naked and you clothed me.”
(Matthew 25:36)

Except for some mad people we see occasionally on the streets in our dear
country Nigeria, it is difficult to meet people who are literally naked. However, there are many sane people who wear washed out and tattered clothes, while some of us have everyday clothes in our wardrobes that we have not worn for one to five years, or even more.
While it may be necessary to preserve the attires we wear for special
occasions, any everyday clothing that is unused for more than one year should be given out because we do not actually need it. There are many who are struggling with feeding their families and cannot afford to buy clothes. We need to spring clean our wardrobes regularly.

The Roses opened a charity shop where we paid rent and took in clothes and household items to sell at give-away prices to the needy. We had to give most of the items out for free because of the poverty level of those around us and we needed to get in money to pay rent. We eventually closed down the shop but we still accept gifts which we give out free.

How about the refugees in the IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps which have resulted from various terrorist activities in Nigeria? Most escaped without anything. God has given us so that we may give. When God’s people do not have clothing, our Lord is naked.
Spiritually, Christ is our covering. People are spiritually naked if they do not have Christ. Jesus sacrificed and shed His blood on the cross, covering our sins to make us righteous and through Him we are able to have a right relationship with God. We Christians need to spiritually clothe people through teaching and preaching the gospel, especially preparing youths for the perverse world we live in.

ACTION: Sow a seed by doing a spring cleaning of your wardrobe. Consciously look out for those in need of clothing (physically and spiritually) and clothe them.

PRAYER: Lord God, stir me up to give to others, as you would want me to.
