FOLLOW THE GREEN LIGHT
“Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place.” (Acts 8:26)
After the death of Stephen, a great persecution arose against the Church in Jerusalem. The apostles were scattered everywhere, preaching the gospel. Phillip went to Samaria preaching Christ. Many were saved as they heard and saw many miracles, healings and deliverances, with great joy.
At the height of these great crusades, the red lights came on as the Lord asked Phillip to stop and go to a road in the desert. What? Who would follow up the souls saved? What would happen in Samaria? Who wants to give up at the height of great success to go to a barren place?
The instruction sounded confusing and seemed like a demotion but Phillip did not seem confused. He immediately moved towards the direction of the green light. As a result of his obedience in reaching out to the Ethiopian eunuch travelling on that lonely desert road, the nation of Ethiopia and subsequently the African continent were opened up to the gospel. The Ethiopian was in charge of the treasury in his country’s government; so his conversion brought Christianity into the power structures of another government.
When God gives us a green light, we should not try to understand His plans fully. Just obey. He is omniscient. My cousin once followed the green light, gave up her job, which was almost at par with her husband’s job to take care of their children in the United States, at a time the two salaries were just enough. First result, her husband gave more time to his job and, in a short while got a promotion with a salary far more than both of their salaries, and at present he has risen so much in his career that he is sought after by many companies with huge financial rewards. Secondly, all their children have made great successes academically and in character.
ACTION: Just move when the God’s light turns green.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, open my eyes to your green light and quicken me to move without delay.
