13TH OCTOBER

A SEED IS ALIVE

“For the word of God is living and active,

sharper than any two- edged sword,

piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and

discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

(Hebrews 4:12)

The Word of God is like a seed which is dry and looks lifeless before planting. A seed remains a seed, if action is not taken to plant it. Similarly, the Word of God, as just a vehicle for communicating ideas, is just a collection of precepts that may kill or judge, if we do not apply them; but when put into action the Spirit gives them life and power (1 Corinthians 3:6).

As a two-edged sword cuts through both sides of an item, so the Word of God penetrates the core of our spiritual and moral life, revealing who we are and discerning our thoughts, whether good or evil.

When we plant a seed in good soil, we water it until it sprouts out and even then, we continue to water and nurture it to maturity. We are called to plant the seed of the Word of God in others, as well as watering and nurturing it through teaching, counselling, love and care. However, we must know that our ability ends there, as it is only God who has the power to make the seed grow in a life.

When we take decisions and act obediently on the Word, like the planted seed that germinates, it blossoms and shapes our lives and the lives of others according to God’s purpose.

ACTION: Bring the word of God to life by your actions.

PRAYER: I pray, Lord, that your Word will prosper and prevail in my life, bringing forth fruits unto eternal life.
