A SEED MUST DIE TO GERMINATE

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone;

 but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (John 12:24)

When a seed is planted in the ground, it dies as a seed, but germinates as a seedling and grows to a living plant. In the same way, when we plant the Word of God in our hearts, it brings death to our natural “self” and produces a life of righteousness and obedience in us.

God declared that the soul that sins must die (Ezekiel 18:4). As the Seed of the woman, being the Firstborn of all creation, Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins. Just like the seedling breaks through the soil, He conquered death and rose up from the grave that had been blocked with a mammoth rock. He first appeared to His disciples – men and women He had taught and trained as His first fruits to carry on His ministry to all generations. He later rose to heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father, fulfilling His purpose as man.

When a seed is planted, it dies first but pushes through the soil with dirt, sand and rocks to come out first as a seedling but grows up to an adult plant that bears much fruit with seeds that can recycle life, fulfilling its purpose. When the Word of God is planted as a seed in man, the typical characteristics in man called “self” dies, as the growing seedling pushes through these obstacles in the heart and flesh of man.  The seedling grows and, as it is watered through obedience and actions of faith, it produces abundant fruit in man.

As man ministers through his words and lifestyle, he bears fruit that births many other souls in Christ. Thus, man fulfils his purpose.

ACTION: Resolve to actively act upon the Word of God that you receive daily.

PRAYER: May the seed of the Word planted in me push through all obstacles, that I may fulfil my purpose.
