THE RISING OF THE MORNING STAR

“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

(2 Peter 1:19)

The prophetic word is confirmed in the Scripture – a lot in the Old Testament, being a foreshadow of Christ, with its fulfilment in the New Testament. The prophetic word may be compared to a torch in a dark room. It does not give perfect light, neither does it remove all obscurity but it sheds some light on objects which would otherwise be entirely dark.

Wisdom is that we endeavour to get this light through the Scripture, as pilgrims in this dark world; and the power of the Holy Spirit who shines it in our hearts guides us with it, as we seek the truth.

In the natural, as the night transitions into day, before the dawn breaks, the morning star begins to shine on the eastern horizon, as a faithful herald of the coming day. The morning star rising in our hearts is our calling to show that torch-like light to the world through our lifestyle to herald the coming of Christ, the Light of the world.

As Peter wrote the words in our text, he was preparing for his demise, just as we must prepare our paths to the land where Christ is the perfect Light. We must not be swallowed up in the cares and lifestyles of the world but with Christ in our hearts, we stand triumphant against sin, the world and the devil.

ACTION: Let the light of Christ shine through you to the world.

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for your glory has risen upon me. Please, grant me grace to arise and shine in your power.
