FRAGRANCE OF THE ROSES – 19TH DECEMBER

Spread the Good News

19 DECEMBER

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

“So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?” (Luke 3:10)

John the Baptist came preaching true repentance. His words were just as Hebrews 4:2 describes: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Men came to John trembling, with a willingness to do whatever was required, that they would not be consumed by the wrath and destruction that John spoke about.  John’s message of true repentance is turning away from sin, renouncing and forsaking them while asking God for forgiveness and turning fully to God through Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

When we say we believe, we cannot live the way we choose; nor can we decide to live a morally correct life, without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Messiah. We come, accept, listen and obey.

In response to the question that forms our topic for today, John listed some three minimum expectations from the believer:

  • Share what we have with those who need it – this is the principle of The Roses Ministry in its outreaches to vulnerable widows, with vocational trainings, food, clothing, education of one child per indigent widow, medical care etc. (Matthew 25:35-36).
  • Do our jobs diligently and with fairness – it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.
  • Be content with what we earn – godliness with contentment is great gain.

These are the heartbeats of God.

ACTION: Put the three expectations above into daily practice.

PRAYER: Grant me grace Oh Lord, to be content with what I have, to do my job as unto you who sees all, and to share what I have with those who need it.
