MANSIONS OF HEAVEN
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2, NKJV)
I remember seeing some pictures of the exotic home of a former Head of State in Nigeria. It seemed like the door knobs and electrical fittings were made of pure gold and crystals. Very few homes around the world would be as magnificent as that but there are definitely many more that are beautiful and alluring, with more than the basic needs of a home.
On the other side, many people struggle to have a place to sleep every night. It pains my heart each time one of the over 1500 indigent widows we care for at The Roses Ministry joyfully shares a testimony of deliverance during a storm or heavy rains, while under a leaking roof. In most cases, the affected widow and her children must have stayed up all night collecting the water and pouring outside, or snuggled together in the dry corner of the room till the rainfall ceased. Their entire resources just barely feed them–how much more getting a better accommodation!
Our homes on earth range from the exotic to the pathetic–not to talk of those who have no home at all. I imagine that if all the rich and the poor were put together, the available homes may be enough for everyone. As much as non–governmental organisations like The Roses are making great impacts and efforts to help improve the lot of the vulnerable, many are still in desperate situations, living in tight, unhygienic and unsafe environments.
David wrote: “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread” (Psalm 37:25, NKJV). We have a hope that no matter how tough life may be on earth, our Lord will surely take care of us here on earth and eternally. Christ has gone to prepare mansions for those who make Him Saviour and Lord of their lives. Our homes in heaven are not dependent on our earthly resources.
ACTION: Have you made Jesus the Saviour and Lord of your life? Do so now, if you haven’t. If you have, then resolve to keep preparing and looking forward to His imminent return.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for the beautiful mansion of joy and rest that you have prepared for me in heaven. Fill me with grace to make it there at last.
