15 April
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” (Psalm 100: 4)
I remember the morning my dad died. We took him to the mortuary in an ambulance. To my dismay, the mortuary attendant brought him out, laid him on the floor and started poking his fist in my dad’s stomach. I cried out. “That is my dad!” even though I knew, logically, that he was not hurting him. He quickly apologised. I find it intriguing that when someone dies, he may look just as if he is sleeping with no physical injury, all organs seem to be intact, but of course the heart has stopped beating and breathing has stopped. But what has really happened is that God, our Creator, has taken away the breath of life He gave at creation. We are alive because the breath of God is still in us. Let us be thankful.
