“He said, ‘If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD (Jehovah Rapha) who heals you.” Exodus 15:26

God is our Healer, in both body and soul! The Israelites were not sick. They were just thirsty and complaining – their usual past time. So why did God reveal Himself to them at this point as Jehovah Rapha-the God who heals? He knew their greatest need was not water but healing from resentment and bitterness. He wants to heal us of our physical illnesses as well as our emotional, relational and mental pains.

God had sent diseases and plagues upon the Egyptians because of their disobedience in afflicting the Hebrews. This verse clearly gives a precondition of obedience to prevent similar afflictions. Note: this does not mean all afflictions are a result of disobedience!

ACTION: We will submit to God’s directions for living at such a time like this.
PRAYER: Jehovah Rapha, please heal us in every area of our lives.
