“Now David was greatly distressed, ….But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God”. (1 Samuel 30:6)

10-year-old Ngozi had just come back from a Secondary School admission interview, discouraged because she was the smallest and youngest of all the students. Her dad told her the story of how David, the smallest and youngest, defeated the giant, Goliath. He explained that age and size are not directly proportional to excellence in academics and character. This same David, the victor, was distressed because his mighty men who had risked their lives for him now wanted to stone him. They had followed him into battle only to find, on returning, that their wives, children and belongings were taken away by the enemy. Are you distressed, depressed or despondent? David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. Talk to Jesus our Chief Counsellor or His agent.

ACTION: Do practical things that will lift you when you are discouraged.

PRAYER: I will encourage myself in the Lord at such a time as this!
